      Mission
This SIG will provide a forum for discussion that supports the unique needs of independent school educators based, in part, on their often unique features such as individual missions, clientele, and funding models. ISTE and NECC offer a unique opportunity for independent schools and public schools to connect regionally and at a distance to share educational technology innovations, strategies, and best practices and to develop professional development partnerships.

      History
IS SIG Birds of a Feather NECC 2008
IS SIG Birds of a Feather NECC 2008

Approximately 80 people attended the first Independent Schools Educators "Birds of
a Feather" event at NECC in San Antonio on July 1, 2008, a superb turnout that
helped validate the deep desire for an organized presence for Independent Schools folk.

Susan Booth of NAIS submitted an application for official ISTE status as the Independent School Educators SIG. Jill Brown and Howard Levin consulted together
on this after viewing notes from the July 1st meeting. This came before the ISTE
Board and was approved at their September 2008 board meeting. As a new SIG, we were granted Topic-Level status with the opportunity to grow into a Forum-Level and eventually a Division-Level SIG. For more information on the various SIG levels, click here.
